The Hague Training Course for Human Rights Defenders

From 21 June to 1 July 2017, Justice and Peace Netherlands organized the 7th edition of the ‘The Hague Training Course for Human Rights Defenders’ (THTC). 10 Participants from all over the world came to The Hague to join this holistic training course on security and advocacy.
These grassroots human rights defenders are living under uncertain conditions because of the work they do. They are being threatened, harrassed and excluded. During the training course they learned new skills and exchanged their experiences among each other.
10 Days, 12 trainers
The trainings were given by 12 trainers, among them security training specialists and the lobbyist of the Justice and Peace team, assisted by experts from Dutch and international NGOs, the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. Also, participants received various sessions of Tai Chi and body work and Trainings of Trainers, learning to train their colleagues themselves.

Deventer becomes 11th Dutch Shelter City
From 2018 onwards, the city in collaboration with local organizations will provide one human rights defender at risk a temporary shelter for a period of three months.
